The Hayashibara International Art Festival “Rising Stars” Call for Drawings of “Fukuro: Owl Drawings”

Hayashibara Co., Ltd. (Shimoishii, Naka-ku, Okayama City; President: Reiji Nagase) will hold the Hayashibara International Arts Festival 2013, “Rising Stars,” featuring the “Fukuro: Owl Drawings” exhibition between October 10 (Thursday) and November 9 (Saturday), 2013 under the joint sponsorship of the Cavin-Morris Gallery in New York.

The Hayashibara International Arts Festival, “Rising Stars,” was established in 2003 to promote the work of artists with disabilities who have exhibited great talent in the field of art.

“Rising Stars” has held many exhibitions all over the world so far, including the “The International Art Exhibition Seen Through the Senses” exhibition, which highlighted the works of artists who are visually impaired, and the “My Mona Lisa” exhibition that featured paintings of Mona Lisa by artists with disabilities. Despite their constraints, these artists express their heart and soul through their works, which reflect their freedom and passion. These works touch our lives, bring us hope, and connect the people of the world in a spirit of inclusion; therefore, they are regarded with high esteem.

For this exhibit, we call for “Fukuro: Owl drawings,” which will include works of artists with disabilities from Japan, South Korea, Nepal, and Italy. With the overall theme for the exhibition being “Fukuro,” the artworks will be displayed for sale, and the profits will be presented to the artists.

This exhibition will provide these talented artists who have not been spotlighted with an invaluable opportunity to display their artworks in New York, the center of contemporary art; an opportunity that is otherwise extremely difficult to acquire. Our aim is to promote their financial independence by selling their works. Through the introduction of artists from “Rising Stars” since 2008, the Cavin-Morris Gallery has highly recognized the high artistic quality of their works and activities, and this breakthrough exhibition is made possible with the support of the gallery.

On the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Hayashibara International Arts Festival, “Rising Stars,” we sincerely wish that this exhibition will bring hope to artists, their parents and teachers who support them, and that the talents of many more artists will bloom.
